Subject Basilica of the Uganda Martyrs
Author Justus Dahinden
Location Namugongo, Uganda

The Basilica of the Uganda Martyrs is a Catholic church built in 1968 by Justus Dahinden. It commemorates the twenty-two Ugandan martyrs killed in Namugongo at the end of the 19th century. The basilica’s architecture takes the form of a large cone, with a structural framework visible on the exterior of the building. This framework consists of twenty-two pillars supporting the building, whose number symbolises the twenty-two Catholic martyrs. Its circular shape is reminiscent of the traditional huts of the Baganda people.
